Project „Filing, Inform Citizens: Passport for the Protection of Personal Data“

The European Association for the Defence of Human Rights (AEDH) has developed the project „Filing, Inform Citizens: Passport for the Protection of Personal Data“ with the French League of Human Rights (LDH, France), Hungarian Civil Liberties Union (HCLU, Hungary), Humanistiche Union (HU, Germany), Action Luxembourg Ouvert et Solidaire — Ligue des Droits de l’Homme (ALOS-LDH, Luxembourg) and MEDEL, network of European Magistrates for Democracy and Freedom.

This project aims inform and raise awareness among European citizens on the public data collection in the fields of education, health, police and justice. Four awareness tools have been produced: an online quiz to test one’s knowledge of the issue; a booklet with a comparative overview of the legislation concerning the protection of personal data in 14 European countries; a monograph on European information systems and the European legal framework on data protection; and a passport summing up information by theme. Public data collection remains an abstract concept to lots of citizens: we hope that an important dissemination of these documents will inform make many people aware of this issue.
